Diego Costa is a troublemaker, says Fernandinho, who claims his elbow to the Chelsea forward's head was an accident.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho put the blame on Diego Costa for his running battle with the Chelsea striker at the Etihad Stadium.

Costa was furious with Fernandinho after the Brazilian elbowed him in the head in first-half stoppage time - although City's holding midfielder insisted the contact was accidental.

Aguero, Zabeleta & Co To Get Extended Holiday

Sergio Aguero and the rest of Manchester City's South American contingent will miss the start of the season, says Manuel Pellegrini.

Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis and Fernandinho are yet to link up with the City squad after being afforded an extended holiday following their Copa America exploits with Argentina and Brazil.

Pellegrini wants to give his squad ample time to prepare ahead of the August 8 kick-off, with City travelling to West Brom before hosting Chelsea, and will not rush back latecomers.

Fernandinho wants to win the Capital One Cup so that Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini can end his decade-long trophy drought.

City take on Sunderland at Wembley on Sunday and both the Brazil international and the Chilean manager could collect their first silverware at the club with a victory. But whereas Fernandinho won 14 trophies during his eight years at Shakhtar Donetsk, Pellegrini has not won anything since his Villarreal team triumphed in the Intertoto Cup in 2004.

"We have a good relationship so personally I want to win this title for [Pellegrini] as well," the midfielder said.
