NBA Power Rankings: Warriors Still First

Now that the Golden State Warriors have lost, the question in this space becomes whether or not there's a legit argument to be made for the Warriors not being No. 1. On the surface, it looks absurd. The Warriors have one loss -- ONE LOSS -- this season. The San Antonio Spurs have five times that, and have as many losses this week as the Warriors do.

However, consider that in the past 15 games, the Spurs have a better net point differential per 100 possessions, while the Warriors' defense has been just 12th in the league in that span. The Spurs have three losses in their last 15, but the Warriors also struggled with teams like the Nets and Raptors, before the double-overtime win over Boston which led to their stumble vs. the Bucks on the back to back.

The Spurs, meanwhile, have played more consistently, game to game, and their losses have come in single-possession games. Still, the Warriors still found ways to win, so they hold on this week. But the debate is there, and honestly? You can consider them tied at the top.

Ever since Tim Duncan has been on the team, the San Antonio Spurs have always been considered to be a championship contender. However, after the Spurs added LaMarcus Aldridge and David West in the offseason, the expectations on the team are now even higher.

Duncan and Manu Ginobili were on the brink of retirement, but both players decided to come back after Aldridge agreed to join the Spurs. While Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard will lead the Spurs in the future, Tony Parker is well aware that next season could be San Antonio's last chance at winning a championship while Duncan and Ginobili are still playing.

BASKETBALL: LeBron James Takes Heat Past Spurs To Seal NBA Finals

LeBron James had 35 points and 10 rebounds in a powerful bounce back from cramps in the opener, and the Miami Heat tied the NBA Finals with a 98-96 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 on Sunday night.

Chris Bosh made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:18 remaining for the Heat, who have won 13 straight following a loss in the postseason. Just like last year, they rebounded from a loss to the Spurs in the opener.

Bosh had 18 points for the Heat, who host Game 3 on Tuesday night.

It has now emerged that Foster is a Spurs fan. She is the daughter of Tottenham supporter and “taxi tycoon” Daryl Foster.

BASKETBALL: Miami Heat Beats Nets As Parker Stars For Spurs

The Miami Heat reversed their regular season form against Brooklyn and dispatched the Nets 107-86 in the opening game of their Eastern Conference second round series.

The Heat had lost all four meetings with the Nets during the regular season, but the two-time defending NBA champions have been dominant in the play-offs, improving to 5-0 after whitewashing Charlotte in the opening round.

LeBron James led the way with 22 points, Ray Allen scored 19 off the bench and Miami outsourced Brooklyn 61-43 in the second half to run away with the win.

In a battle of the NBA's second-most efficient offense and fourth-best defense (per NBA.com), Miami's whirring flurry of ball movement and open jumpers won out. The Heat shot 58.1 percent from the floor, highlighted by an excellent third quarter that reminded fans why there is no better team on the planet when they are motivated.

BASKETBALL: Kevin Durant keeps Rolling As OKC Tops Spurs For Third Time

Two of the NBA's best teams squared off in a highly anticipated bout Wednesday, when the Oklahoma City Thunder clashed with the San Antonio Spurs.

Kevin Durant continued his stellar play, powering the Thunder to their fifth straight win in a 111-105 victory. Durant totaled 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Reggie Jackson added 27 points and eight assists as OKC overtook San Antonio as the No. 1 team in the Western Conference.

MVP: It has become a formality at this point, but Kevin Durant had 36 points on just 22 shots, and down the stretch of a tight game, he and his teammates could not be stopped -- especially after Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard went down with a broken hand.
