Vuelta a Espana: Injury Rules Chris Froome's Chance

Briton Chris Froome's hopes of winning the Vuelta a Espana look to be over after he finished Wednesday's stage more than seven minutes behind the general classification leader.

Froome had been hoping to become the third man to win the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana in the same year but he crashed early on stage 11.

It was won by Spain's Mikel Landa from the Astana Pro Team. Italian team-mate Fabio Aru took the overall classification lead.

Vuelta a Espana; Tom Dumoulin Leads But Chris Froome Impresses

Chris Froome produced a sensational climb to Sunday's summit finish as Tom Dumoulin won stage nine on another intriguing day at the Vuelta a Espana.

Briton Froome looked set to win the stage after riding clear of his general classification rivals on a 3.5km ascent that featured gradients of 19%.

However, he was caught in the final 50 metres by Dumoulin, who regained the overall race lead from Esteban Chaves. Team Sky's Froome is now eighth overall, 78 seconds behind Dumoulin.

Cycling: Vincenzo Nibali Thrown Out Of Vuelta a Espana

Vincenzo Nibali was thrown off the Vuelta a Espana when TV images showed him being towed back into the pack after a crash on stage two on Sunday.

Images showed the Italian's Astana team car pulling alongside him and then both he and the car accelerating rapidly.

Judges decided Nibali was either towed by the car as he held it, or grabbed a water bottle extended from the window.

Chris Froome To Take Part In Vuelta A Espana

Two-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome will take part in the Vuelta a Espana, the third and final Grand Tour of 2015 which starts later this month.

At the end of July the Team Sky rider, 30, became the first Briton to win the Tour twice. In Spain he will attempt to become only the 10th cyclist to win two Grand Tours in one season.

He joins Nairo Quintana of Colombia and Italian Vincenzo Nibali in a strong Vuelta field. Quintana finished second behind Froome in Paris this year and Nibali was the Tour champion in 2014.
