Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal insists he is not
jealous of Manchester City’s squad as he prepares for his first derby on
Sunday. Manuel Pellegrini's men claimed their second title in three
years last season and boast a squad including the likes of Sergio Aguero, Yaya
Toure, David Silva and Vincent Kompany.
The Dutchman takes his team to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday
having spent heavily in the summer and is optimistic his team can take all
three points.
"I am not jealous of the squad of Manchester
City," Van Gaal told reporters.
"I am proud of my players and that is the most
important thing and when we play like a team then we have a big chance to
win."
A late goal from Robin van Persie saw United snatch a late
1-1 draw with Chelsea last time out and Van Gaal admits a win against City
would give his side a huge lift.
"We are waiting on that boost because that can give you
more than only the result," he added.
"We have played very well against West Brom and we
played a draw against Chelsea, nobody expected that result but for me it was
not enough and maybe the result against Manchester City shall give us that
boost."
The champions go into the game on the back of defeats to
West Ham and Newcastle and Van Gaal feels this might be a good time to face
Pellegrini’s men.
''It is not the greatest moment of Manchester City,'' he
said.
''What we have seen of Manchester City in the last matches
was not so good.
''We have a good feeling about this match. Our spirit is
unbelievable.
"I think we shall grow and develop ourselves. We need a
good result and it could be against Man City."
