ALL HAIL KANO PILLARS - New Champions Of The Nigerian Premier League

Kano Pillars have technically emerged winners of the prolonged 2013/2014 Glo Premier League even with one round of matches yet to be played. Pillars edged relegated Nembe City 4-0 in their last home match of the season while Enyimba drew 1-1 with Dolphins of Port Harcourt at the Liberation Stadium.

The result in Kano means Pillars now have 65 points and would be crowned a third time back-to-back champions irrespective of the outcome of their last game of the season away to Enyimba. It is the second time Pillars and Enyimba have been locked in a photo-finish clash with the Pyramid City side coming out tops at the end of the day.

Pillars are now set to become land lords as governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has been reported to have promised the players houses if they lift the league again.

“The governor addressed us last week and said if we win the league this year for the third time consecutively he will give us something much bigger and better than a car”, informs one of the players who don’t want his name in print.

“He said he has given us cars and cash in the last two times we won the league but this time what he will give us is going to be worth more than cars and we know its going to be houses”, the player, a mid fielder added.

He went on to reveal that the houses are already completed at three different housing estates in the Kano metropolis.

“There is one (housing estate) at Kwankwassiya village, there is also another one at Amanaa City and the other one at Bandaarau.

“It could be any of the three but that (the location) is not what is bothering us at the moment.

“What we’re focusing and concentrating on is how we can continue to work hard and win our games and leave the governor to play his part at the end of the day”.

Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Nasarawa United as well as Abia Warriors will now fight for the remaining CAF Champions League slot as well as CAF Confederations Cup slot available for the third placed team on the log.
