The captain of Nigeria league leaders FC IfeanyiUbah, Chibuzor Okonkwo, has said they are battle ready to beat Rangers in Enugu in a Week 11 game this afternoon to extend their dominance over their more famous foes.
Regional rivals IfeanyiUbah are the new leaders of the league after they toppled Rangers in midweek.
They now have 19 points from 10 matches, a point ahead of Rangers.
Last season, coach Daniel Amokachi got off to a flying start in charge of ‘Anambra Warriors’ IfeanyiUbah when they won 3-2 in a Week 23 clash in Enugu.
IfeanyiUbah had also won the home game 1-0 in Week 3 for them to do the double over ‘The Flying Antelopes’.
The Nnewi club are bankrolled by billionaire oil magnate Ifeanyi Ubah and have attracted players from Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Ghana and even Brazil. They also have a Bulgarian coach, Mitko Dobrev.
Rangers, on the other hand, have been struggling financially as they wait on the Enugu State Government for cash to stay afloat.
Super Eagles defender Okonkwo has admitted it will be a tough against Rangers, but they still hope to prove their superiority over the home team so as to remain on top of the table.
"We are taking the battle to Enugu to beat Rangers, we beat them right in Enugu last season and we are gunning for repeat this season to remain on top of the league table,” said Okonkwo, who incidentally has also featured for Rangers.
"It's going to be a tough game no doubt because Rangers are a top team, but my teammates are ready and I am happy the match will be live on TV."
