COPA DEL REY: Real Madrid & Iker Casillas Breaks Spanish Record To Become First Team To Reach Final Without Conceeding A Goal

Real Madrid completed a 5-0 thrashing of city rivals Atletico in the Copa Del Rey semifinal of Tuesday night, and in doing so Los Blancos set a new record in Spanish football history. For the first time in over 100 years Real have qualified for the Spanish Cup final without having conceded a goal.

The achievement of getting to the final without having let in a goal had previously been recorded by Barcelona in 1912 and Athletic Bilbao in 1916. Noticeably, Iker Casillas, who has found himself playing second fiddle to Diego Lopes at the Bernabeu for two seasons now, has played in goal for all eight games in the Copa Del Rey.

Real Madrid was beaten on home soil by Atletico to win the Copa del rey final which left Mourinho & his boys devastated. Today Real will be hopeful of a sweet revenge tonight. Already Atletico have beaten Madrid at the Bernabeu again and they are the league leaders now.

COPA DEL REY: Real Madrid Seek Revenge Over Atletico Madrid

Copa del Rey holders Atletico Madrid return to the scene where they won the trophy last year when they face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their semi-final tonight. Atletico ended a 14-year run without a win against their city rivals with a 2-1 victory after extra-time in May.

Los Rojiblancos have kept that momentum going this season with another win over Real in their only meeting so far this season in La Liga back in September. Atletico also became outright leaders in the league for the first time since their double-winning campaign in 1996 with a 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his World Player of the Year award with a goal as Real Madrid beat Osasuna 2-0 - and 4-0 on aggregate - in the Copa del Rey.

The 28-year-old, who won his second Ballon d'Or on Monday, was fortunate to see his free-kick slip through goalkeeper Andres Fernandez's grasp.

Angel di Maria doubled the lead with a low finish before Gareth Bale replaced Ronaldo in the 68th minute.
Bale, without a goal since November, did little to win back his place.
