Chelsea, Arsenal Fined By FA After Costa-Gabriel Clash

Chelsea and Arsenal were both fined by the Football Association on Thursday following the behaviour of their players in last month's ill-tempered Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal had Brazilian defender Gabriel and Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla sent off as champions Chelsea won 2-0 against their London rivals.

But Gabriel's red card was later rescinded while Chelsea striker Diego Costa was subsequently handed a three-match ban after his tussle with the centre-back and Gunners teammate Laurent Koscielny, which led to the FA charging both clubs with failure to control their players.

Arsenal defender Gabriel has been banned for one match and fined £10,000 after admitting a Football Association charge of improper conduct.

Gabriel, 24, was sent off by referee Mike Dean for violent conduct after a clash with Chelsea's Diego Costa during the 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal appealed successfully against a three-match ban for the red card.

Chelsea's Spain forward Diego Costa was on Tuesday banned for three matches for raising his hands to the face of Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny.

Costa was found guilty of violent conduct during Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League win over their London rivals on Saturday.

The 26-year-old former Atletico Madrid striker had denied the Football Association charge over the incident, which had been missed by referee Mike Dean.
