CHELSEA vs SWANSEA PREVIEW

Chelsea are sweating on the fitness of striker Diego Costa as they prepare to take on Swansea City in a top-of-the-table clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Costa was substituted midway through the second half of Spain's 1-0 friendly defeat to France with a hamstring problem and returned to the Blues' Cobham training centre earlier this week for further assessment.

On Friday Jose Mourinho is expected to provide an update on the condition of the Brazil-born Spaniard, who has lit up the Premier League since his summer arrival from Atletico Madrid with four goals in his first three matches. If Costa misses out, Mourinho could hand a debut to Loic Remy, recruited from west London neighbours QPR in a £10.5 million deal in the final days of the transfer window. Thibaut Courtois is also expected to keep his place in goal ahead of Petr Cech after signing a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge this week.

Garry Monk believes "powerhouses" Chelsea will take some stopping this season ahead of Swansea City's trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Swansea and Jose Mourinho's side have made perfect starts to the new Premier League campaign and are the only teams to have won the opening three matches.

While Monk's Swansea side were not expected to be early front-runners, leaders Chelsea were installed as title favourites following a spending spree that saw the likes of Spain duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas arrive at the London club.

Striker Costa has wasted no time in making an impact in English football, scoring four goals in his first three Premier League games, and he struck twice as ruthless Chelsea fired a warning to their rivals by hammering Everton 6-3 at Goodison Park last time out.

SWANSEA: Micheal Laudrup Sacked As Club Captain Takes Over

Swansea City have sacked boss Michael Laudrup and put club captain Garry Monk in charge for Saturday's clash with arch-rivals Cardiff City. The news came a day after chairman Huw Jenkins dismissed rumours that they had discussed Laudrup's future.

"It is a decision we have taken reluctantly," Jenkins told the club's website. "But it's a decision made in the best interests of Swansea City football club and our supporters."

Rumours had been circulating about Laudrup's future since the Swans lost 2-0 at West Ham on Saturday. It was their sixth defeat in eight Premier League games, leaving them only two points off the relegation places.
