The Super Eagles are now seventh in Africa after dropping to the forty-first position in the world following their loss to Mali on Saturday
Nigeria’s senior national team has dropped four places to 41st in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday.
The African champions were adjudged the 37th best football playing team in the world according to the ranking released earlier in December.
Their drop comes after losing 2-1 to Mali in Saturday's African Nations Championship game, a tournament that has been upgraded to ranking status by Fifa.
Meanwhile Cote d’Ivoire remain at the summit of African football with 912 points which put them in the 17th position in the world while Ghana retained their 24th spot in the world and second in Africa.
Algeria stay third on the continent after amassing 792 points which places them in the 27th spot in the world.
Spain, Germany and Argentina hold the first, second and third spots in the world respectively as Fifa Confederations Cup champions Brazil retained their tenth spot in the world.
The next ranking will be released on February 13, 2014 and will take into account all the results from the Caf’s African Nations Championship, which is underway in South Africa.
