Milner has impressed during pre-season, earning the admiration of both his team-mates and the Reds boss. Rodgers told reporters: “He is someone I admired from the outside for a long time. He’s played at this level since he was 16 years of age and has played for some fantastic clubs.

Milner Ready To Shine For Liverpool - Brendan Rodger

Liverpool midfielder James Milner came in for praise from manager Brendan Rodgers after scoring his first goal for the club in Friday's friendly win against Brisbane Roar.

The Reds fell behind in the 17th minute at Suncorp Stadium after Dimitri Petratos's cool finish but were level before the half-hour mark thanks to Adam Lallana's sublime curling effort.

Milner, who joined on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer, netted the winner when he worked space for himself on the edge of the box and saw his shot loop over goalkeeper Jamie Young and into the net.
