Shaun Wright Phillips Joins New York Red Bulls

Former Man City & Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillips has joined New York Red Bulls following his release by QPR.

New York Red Bulls have completed the signing of former England international Shaun Wright-Phillips, who joins brother Bradley at the club.

Wright-Phillips was released by QPR at the end of last season having made just five Premier League starts over the last two campaigns.

Chelsea were stunned by MLS side New York Red Bulls in their pre-season friendly last night, the guys from the Big Apple beating the Premier League gianst 4-2.

Jose Mourinho has reiterated his belief that Chelsea's 4-2 loss to New York Red Bulls is of no real concern, insisting "pre-season is fake".

The Premier League champions' first match of the summer did not go according to plan, with Franklin Castellanos, 16-year-old Tyler Adams and Sean Davis earning the MLS outfit a shock win over the Blues, for whom Loic Remy and Eden Hazard were on target.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho sprung to the defence of new goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after the Bosnian conceded four goals against the New York Red Bulls after coming on as a halftime substitute in a friendly on Wednesday.

Begovic, signed from Stoke City this month for eight million pounds ($12.48 million) as competition for first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois, was introduced with the English champions 1-0 ahead in New Jersey but Chelsea ended up losing 4-2.

Chelsea were stunned 4-2 by a youthful New York Red Bulls outfit in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday. Jose Mourinho said Chelsea's loss to New York Red Bulls was far more beneficial than a lopsided friendly victory.

Chelsea's first match of the pre-season did not go accordingly to plan, the wasteful Premier League champions punished 4-2 by a second-string Red Bulls outfit in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday.

Loic Remy's 26th-minute opener had Chelsea on track in Harrison, New Jersey, until three unanswered goals from Franklin Castellanos, 16-year-old Tyler Adams and Sean Davis turned the match on its head.
