SPANISH SUPER CUP: ATLETICO 1 REAL 0 - Mario Mandzukic Shoots Simeone's Men To Glory

Atlético Madrid claimed the first trophy of the Spanish season by defeating city rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, thanks to a 1-0 second leg victory over Los Blancos on Friday night at the Vicente Calderón. New striker Mario Mandzukic's second minute goal held up the whole way as the Rojiblancos earned the silverware thanks to a 2-1 advantage on aggregate.

Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone's 4-2-3-1 consisted of Miguel Ángel Moyá in goal, Juanfran, João Miranda, Diego Godin and Siquiera in defense. Gabi and Tiago slotted in as defensive midfielders while Koke, Antoine Griezmann and Raul Garcia formed the attacking midfield behind lone striker Mario Mandzukic.

There was talk out of the Real Madrid camp that head coach Carlo Ancelotti would opt for new arrival Keylor Navas over Iker Casillas in goal, but in the end the Italian stuck with the Spanish veteran. Joining Casillas was a back four of Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Fabio Coentrao. The midfield was anchored by Luka Modric, Xabi Alonso and Toni Kroos while up front Cristiano Ronaldo was still hampered by the injury he sustained in Tuesday first leg so his spot was conceded to new arrival James.

ANCELOTTI vs SIMEONE: Familiar Foes Meet For The Seventh Time In Less Than A Year

They will look for each other when they exit the tunnel and will shake each other's hand on the touchline. They will probably even smile as they recall their elegant exchange of words after the Spanish Super Cup first leg.

Simeone and Ancelotti are slowly forging a sporting rivalry that is now moving into the press room. Madrid derby games are back in all their glory and that is reflected in both the players' and coaches' appearances in front of the press. Simeone's controversial comments on Di María led to Ancelotti hitting back sarcastically and referring to Bale's Champions League goal in Lisbon.

Is Ronaldo The King Of The Spanish Super Cup???

Cristiano Ronaldo is in tip-top condition ahead of the Spanish Super Cup. The knee injury that plagued him last season is history and he goes into the first derby game of the new season as Real Madrid's top goalscorer in pre-season. That is after playing only three games and the full 90 minutes in just one.

CR7 has three goals to his name, two of them in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, and is once again Real Madrid's main attacking threat. The Portuguese also appears to thrive in the Spanish Super Cup, in which he has scored in the last three he has played in. He found the net in the second-leg of the 2011 Super Cup against Barça, as well as in both legs of the 2012 final, also against the Catalans, taking his tally in this competition to three.

SPANISH SUPER CUP: Real And Atletico Meet Again

They last parted ways in Lisbon with Casillas lifting 'Ole Big Ears' from the VIP box. Now in August, the two Madrilenian clubs are to face up to each other again - twice.

With the season not yet underway, 'Los Blancos' and 'Los Rojiblancos' are to fight it out for another title - a title that the winners always give more importance to than the losers, but that this summer has an edge to it.

For Ancleotti and his men, it is a reunion with their fans after 25th May and their first appearance at home since running out European Super Champions. Simeone and Co. assure that they go into the match with no desires for revenge. But ask the fans what they think.
