Schweinsteiger was sent off with a second yellow card in the closing stages of the quarterfinal first leg after a tackle on Wayne Rooney.
In its article immediately after the game, the Mirror featured a picture of the German midfielder with the headline: “You dirty Schwein” (meaning “You dirty pig”), while the Sun decided to use a similar pun on Schweinsteiger’s name, and used the title: “You Schwein”.
Bayern described the headlines as “personally insulting and discriminating” and “will not be accepted as a form of journalism.”
As a result, journalists of both tabloids are banned from attending the upcoming return leg in the Allianz Arena on April 9.
