Musa, Enyeama, Toure Tops 37-Man List Of African Footballer Of The Year

The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) on Sunday, announced the nominees for the 2015 African Player of the Year, with former skipper of the Super Eagles, Vincent Enyeama and the current captain of the team, Ahmed Musa in the race.

Thirty-seven (37) players have been nominated for the topmost Player of the Year

John Obi Mikel's father, Pa Michael Obi has held the President of the Confederation of African Football responsible for his son’s inability to be named 2013 Africa Footballer of the Year.

Mikel finished second place in the award won by Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure at a  gala held in Lagos on January 9.

Super Eagles and Chelsea midfield maestro, John Obi Mikel has expressed his profound gratitude to millions of his fans in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, who supported and prayed for him to win the 2013 GLO-CAF Africa Player of the Year won by Cote d’ Ivorian Yahaya Toure.

Mikel was the runner-up; he also thanked telecommunications giant, Globacom Telecommunications for putting up a spectacular ceremony that was entertaining and fun filled.

In a statement signed by Mikel’s manager and agent, Olatunji John Shittu, Mikel said, “I am overwhelmed by the support of Nigerians at home and abroad, and others who voted for me and supported me in my quest to be crowned the African Player of the Year.

AFRICAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Chelsea Jet To Fly Mikel For Award

Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi will be specially flown in and out of Lagos by the jet of his EPL club Chelsea for the CAF Awards on Thursday. Mikel has been nominated for the prestigious African Footballer of the Year award 2013 alongside Yaya Toure(Manchester City and Cote d'Ivoire) and Didier Drogba(Galatasaray and Cote d'Ivoire).

He specially told MTNFootball.com he plans to fly in and out of Lagos for the awards ceremony by his club's jet all on Thursday.

Yaya Toure, Mikel,Eto,Drogba, Aboutrika lead CAF Player of the Year award

The African Football Confederation (CAF) on Friday unveiled a 25-man shortlist for the prize of African Footballer of the Year for 2013, with Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba the leading names. Manchester City midfielder Toure has won the award in each of the last two years and winning it for a third consecutive year would see him match the achievement of Samuel Eto'o, winner in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Eto'o, now of Chelsea, has won the award four times overall but is not nominated this time. Two-time winner Drogba, now of Galatasaray, and Gervinho of Roma are the other candidates from the Ivory Coast, while there are five Nigerians in contention, all members of the side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa at the start of the year. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, on July 9. See the list below after the cut.
