Shin Injury Is "Frustrating & Annoying" - Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry walked to the locker room to the third quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday because he'd aggravated his shin contusion. The injury kept the Golden State Warriors superstar out of two games at the end of December, and he had to leave Saturday's game early, too.

This time, his shin hit the leg of Lakers center Roy Hibbert. He stayed in the game, but checked out about five minutes later with his team en route to a 109-88 win. In his 26 minutes, he had 17 points on 6-for-13 shooting, including 4-for-8 from deep, plus six assists, one rebound and three steals.

"It's just frustrating and annoying and any other adjective you want to throw in there," Curry told reporters, via ESPN's Ethan Sherwood Strauss. "Long-term, it's not something that I'll have to worry about. It's just playing through an injury that's there. It doesn't get worse if I play on it, unless I get kicked, and that's happened three times since I did it, so hopefully it won't keep happening again."

NBA: Will Curry's Shin Injury Affect Warriors Run

For now, Saturday night doesn't leave a huge void in the Golden State Warriors' season. Stephen Curry left the game after re-injuring his sore shin when it got knocked when trying to navigate some screens and stay in front of Jameer Nelson against the Denver Nuggets. Curry was subbed out at the 2:16 mark of the second quarter when he was noticeably limping, and never returned.

The result of the injury was a fascinating look into what may lie ahead for the Warriors in their pursuit of the best record in NBA history, the 72-10 Chicago Bulls. The Warriors want this record and they've been pretty adamant about finding the requisite motivation in order to be up for all of these games in a way that does harken back to the insane competitive nature of Michael Jordan. But when you take away that team's M.J., does such a feat become impossible to attain or even approach?

Having played against Michael Jordan for a good portion of his career, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd is well aware of the former Chicago Bulls star's legendary abilities. So when talking about Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry on Saturday night, Kidd was not being facetious when he compared the reigning MVP to Jordan.

"He's this generation's Jordan." Kidd told reporters. "We all wanted to be like Mike, and children today will grow up seeing Steph."

Do note that Kidd is not saying that Curry is a similar player to Jordan. He is mainly comparing Curry to Jordan on a generational level, which is quite true. Jordan captured the imagination of a generation of fans during his playing career and now Curry is doing the same.

About three hours before the Golden State Warriors' 24-0 start would come to an end in Milwaukee, amid an atmosphere that could only be compared to the NCAA Tournament, Doc Rivers stopped on his way to the locker room in Brooklyn and was asked to assess what impressed him most about "the streak."

His Los Angeles Clippers had just beaten the Nets 105-100 on Saturday night, finally getting some reliable play from the bench and continuing a recent trend of precise execution down the stretch.

In other words, what the Warriors had been doing for 24 games in a row.

The flurry happened in the third quarter this time. The Golden State Warriors were actually outscored 38-27 in the second quarter against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, and trailed for a little while after halftime. It was tied 76-76 with less than two minutes to go in the third, then Curry hit one of his ridiculous 3-pointers in transition. Afterward he turned around, did a little shimmy, pointed to the sky and declared, "That's what we do."

Golden State took an 87-80 lead into the final frame, and by the seven-minute mark it led by 17 points. The Warriors won their 22nd game in a row 114-98, with Curry watching the final few minutes from the bench. That is what they do.

Curry once again led the team with 28 points on 11-for-17 shooting, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range. He scored 16 points in the third quarter alone, receiving cheers from the Barclays Center crowd every time he added to his total.

The Golden State Warriors, on an East Coast road trip, on an early start, in Toronto, without two starters (Harrison Barnes, Andrew Bogut) due to injuries, didn't play all that well as a team Saturday and still advanced to 21-0 in a 112-109 victory over the Raptors thanks to 44 points from Stephen Curry including this ridiculous pull-up 3-pointer.

The Warriors didn't really play all that well and still led for most of the game. Kyle Lowry was great for the Raptors, but DeMar DeRozan (5-of-19 from the field) really struggled. Down the stretch both Lowry and DeRozan missed key free throws which opened up the Warriors with a chance to hold the lead on free throws, which they are nearly unbeatable in that situation.

The Warriors extended their unbeaten run to 19 games and Stephen Curry was the man again. Utah Jazz looked tough on the Warriors but Curry pulled the magic beam to give the Warriors the needed victory. Only 3 points was between the teams.

The Golden State Warriors always rise to the challenge. In a tough, gritty game in Salt Lake City, the Warriors extended their streak to 19-0 with a 106-103 win over the Utah Jazz Monday. Stephen Curry brought in 26 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the win, including an absolutely monster pull-up 3-pointer late to give the Warriors a three-point lead they would not surrender.

Curry missed a chance to ice it late, but after it was Jazz ball with 16 seconds to go, Rodney Hood missed a pull-up 3-pointer for the win. The Warriors secured the rebound, Curry hit free throws and with the Jazz out of timeouts, Gordon Hayward's heave fell short. It's another example of the resilience that the Warriors have shown time and time again.

Led by Stephen Curry, the Warriors cruised to a 135-116 victory over the Suns to remain undefeated. Golden State is now the first team in the history of the NBA to start a season 17-0. Dating back to last season, the Warriors have now won 21 straight regular-season games and are only the fourth team in NBA history to win 21 or more straight games.

NBA: Golden State Warriors Set New Winnig Streak Record

So much for Pat Riley's “disease of more.” The defending champion Golden State Warriors have started better than any team in NBA history, winning their first 16 games in dominant fashion. The latest: a 111-77 victory over the lowly Los Angeles Lakers at Oracle Arena on Tuesday.

This was a typical Warriors blowout. They outscored Los Angeles 30-11 in the first quarter and ended the third up 89-55. No Golden State starter even saw the floor in the final frame. Stephen Curry scored a game-high 24 points on 10-for-21 shooting, including 4 for 12 from 3-point range, which is an off night for him. Curry added nine assists, four rebounds and two steals, though, and didn't turn the ball over in his 30 minutes.

Kobe Bryant scored four points on 1-for-14 shooting for the Lakers, and the Warriors' defense prevented them from even passing the ball cleanly, let alone getting open shots. Golden State, meanwhile, was able to push the pace, share the ball and seemingly find easy looks whenever it wanted to.
