CHAN 2016: Ivory Coast Defeat Guinea To Win Bronze

Poor goalkeeping, sloppy defending and two missed penalties by Guinea cost them as Ivory Coast emerged 2-1 winners to take bronze at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) on Sunday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda.

Ivory Coast started the match without two experienced defenders, Mahan Goua and Yace Marius who were both ruled out due of injury. They had both been part of Ivory Coast's five matches en-route to the final, commanding 802 minutes between themselves.

Abdoulaye Karim Cisse also started in goal ahead of Badra Ali Sangare, the latter saved a penalty against Mali before faltering as Yves Bissouma scored Mali's winner in the semifinals.

CHAN: Dejected Home Eagles To Return Back To Nigeria On Thursday

Guinea stunned Nigeria in a one goal encounter to dump Oliseh's Eagles out of the CHAN tournament in the group stage of the ongoing tournament in Rwanda.

The Super Eagles ‘B’ team will return to Nigeria from Rwanda Thursday night after they were sent packing from this year’s CHAN, officials have announced.

According to the team’s programme, they will fly out of Kigali direct to Lagos by 2pm local time.

CHAN 2016: Nigeria Needs A Point To Reach Quarter-Final

The Super Eagles of need at least a draw against Guinea in the final Group C clash in Rubavu on Tuesday.

Nigeria are top of the group with four points from two matches, but the first round section is still very much wide open with all four teams still in with a mathematical chance of reaching the knockout rounds of the tournament.

Both Tunisia and Guinea are on two points after they drew their first two matches, while Niger are bottom of the standings on a point.

Tunisia holds the edge against Nigeria with the Northern African side recording a victory more than Nigeria but the Eagles believe they can equal the record today.

After an impressive demolition of Niger in her first group game at the 4th African Nations of Championship, Nigeria will have an eye on a spot in the quarter-final when the Super Eagles clash with the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Friday.

The Eagles started the tournament with a bang hitting four past a hapless Mena side, who despite holding the Eagles for long periods of the game, couldn’t keep up with Nigeria’s fire-power.

Wale Scott shared his opinion on Sports Splash about the Home Eagles victory against Niger Republic. 

Wale was of the opinion that coach Sunday Oliseh was fantastic with his change but insisted that the performance of the Eagles can not be measured by playing a lowly ranked African side in a championship.

Wale also hailed Chisom Chikatara who scored an hat-trick for Nigeria in a space of 32 minutes but also expressed his fear that Chisom isn't a regular scorer in the league and that Nigerians shouldn't expect too much from the upcoming star.

Virus infected Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh is back on his feet has the Eagles gaffer has started training the team ahead of the CHAN 2016 Championship.

Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh is fully recovered from a virus infection that kept him away from Nigeria and has already got cracking in his preparations for the 2016 CHAN, which kicks off on January 16, officials have said.

On Saturday night, Oliseh, who was not part of the team’s training camp in Abuja, received the  Eagles squad in Pretoria and the following day they were training under his supervision.

The home based Super Eagles list for CHAN 2016 Pretoria camp has been released today according to NFF.

Missing on the list is Gbolahan Salami who refused to rejoin the camp after the Christmas break. Coach Salisu released the list in the absence of Sunday Oliseh. 

The team is set to jet out today to Pretoria, South Africa to finalise training before the kick off of the tournament. See the list after the cut....

CHAN: Home Eagles To Get Christmas Break - Alloy Agu

The Gbolahan Salami led Eagles will be allowed to go on Christmas break as the training camp of the home Eagles will be closed on Wednesday and re-opened on Saturday. 

Super Eagles goalkeeper coach Alloy Agu stated that the boys know what is at stake in the CHAN tournament in Rwanda in 2016. The boys are presently in camp in Abuja and will be expected back after Christmas.

“I want to believe that they players know what is at stake, I equally believe they have Nigerians at heart as well as their expectations at the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

Home Eagles To Kick Off Training Without Oliseh

Like we confirmed to you before that Oliseh will not be joining the home eagles again news out have confirmed that the training camp will kick off today without Oliseh who is out again based on health issues. Oliseh always unavailable for home Eagles...... hmmmmm

Despite the claimed illness which has seen him miss the home Eagles camp in recent times the gaffer hasn't missed the Super Eagles camp despite the fact that the Burkina Faso match was close to the match of the Super Eagles then. 

Am not saying Oliseh is completely healthy but why miss the home Eagles activity and you get well days after for the Super Eagles... Seems like there is no big deal with the home Eagles.

Again! Oliseh Won't Join CHAN Eagles Training

Let us just believe that the absence of Oliseh from the country won't be a permanent one. Oliseh has refused to move to Nigeria after getting the Eagles top coaching job and this is not the first time he will be missing out of the CHAN Eagles training though much of his absence has been based on illness.

For the good of the game in the country more fans will like to see Oliseh within the shores of the country and ensuring the monitoring of home grown players instead of flying around Europe to scout players. Oliseh sits in Belgium earns 5 million Naira monthly and still has excuses for taking charge of CHAN matches....... Pinnick must talk fast.

Oliseh had earlier sent written instructions to the invited players, the instruction includes what to eat, training method and scope, timing and more. This seems good but most Nigerians want to see him in action instead of sending instructions.

CHAN: Gbolahan Salami Tops Home Eagles 26-Man List

Sunday Oliseh has called Gbolahan Salami, Chima Akas and 24 others for the first phase of preparation ahead of next month’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.
Gbolahan Salami was Goal King of the past season with 17 goals for league runners-up Warri Wolves.

Also called up are regulars Kalu Orji, Austin Oboroakpo, Jamiu Alimi (defenders), midfielders Ifeanyi Mathew, Paul Onobi, Usman Mohammed and Bature Yaro, forwards Ezekiel Bassey, Tunde Adeniji, Chisom Chikatara and Prince Aggrey, and goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Olufemi Thomas.

The Super Eagles ‘B’ team have already been drawn into Group C of the competition reserved for players featuring in their home leagues alongside Niger Republic, Tunisia and Guinea, with matches to be played at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo in Kigali.

Nigeria Qualify For Chan 2016 In Rwanda

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have qualified for the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) in Rwanda.

The Super Eagles drew 0-0 with Burkina Faso in the second leg of their qualifying tie with Burkina Faso at Stade du 4 Août, Ouagadougou on Sunday.

A first half penalty miss represented Burkina Faso’s best chance to open the scoring before the interval but the opportunity was not taken.

CHAN: Eagles Start Preparation Ahead Of Burkina Faso Clash

Nigeria’s men’s national team, the Super Eagles, will commence training on Tuesday ahead of this month’s Africa Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier with Burkina Faso.

The team, exclusively made up of domestically-based footballers, will train twice on Tuesday. The first session will kick off at 9:30am while the second gets underway at 3:30pm.

Both sessions will be held at the Shell club, Port Harcourt.

Nigeria: Oliseh Releases 19-Man List For CHAN Eagles

Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has announced a 19-man squad for the country’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualification match against Burkina Faso in October, as the country seeks its second participation since the competition started.

Sunshine Stars’ hotshot, Tunde Adeniji lead the team that parades Gbolahan Salami, Solomon Kwambe, Bature Yaro and Ezekiel Bassey.

Others are Idris Aloma, Stephen Ezem, Usman Mohammed and Dayo Ojo.

CHAN: Coup Postpones Eagles Clash With Burkina Faso

The recent military coup in Burkina Faso has forced next month’s 2016 CHAN qualifier between Nigeria and Burkina Faso to be moved, according to media reports.

The final CHAN qualifier was slated for October 18 in Port Harcourt with the second leg in Ouagadougou a week later.

However, the volatile security situation in Burkina Faso caused by the coup has now forced CAF to postpone the fixture until further notice, according to a Voice of America news bulletin.

Oliseh To Announce AFCON & CHAN Players List In August

Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has disclosed that the team list for the AFCON  and CHAN qualifiers against Tanzania and Burkina Faso will be announced in August.

“We have to cover all grounds and be adequately prepared for all the competitions we are involved in whether it is CHAN,AFCON or World Cup qualifiers.

“Our list of invited players for the CHAN team will be out in the first week of August,while that of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania should be out mid August.”

Libya Beat Ghana On Penalties To Win CHAN Title

Libya claimed the 2014 African Nations Championship (Chan) title after defeating Ghana on a penalty shootout in the tournament final at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening. The North Africans’ first piece of continental silverware arrived courtesy of a 4-3 shootout win over the Black Stars after the match had ended goalless after extra time. It was the third successive match Libya won by a shootout, after ousting Gabon and Zimbabwe in the same manner in the quarter- and semifinals respectively.

The first half saw little in the way of goalmouth action, with the teams effectively cancelling each other out. Ghana had the edge in terms of pace and athleticism, but Libya were well organised and looked dangerous on the counter attack.
