Copa Del Rey Win Can Save Martino's Job

The Barça squad are fully aware that they are playing for all or nothing tonight. They haven't given up on the league, but they know that it's out of their hands and looks complicated with only five games to go until the end of the season, especially given their closest rivals' form. It is a somewhat unusual situation for this team, which had been used to winning trophy upon trophy in recent years.

The last time something similar happened was back during the 2007-08 season, with Rijkaard still in the dugout. The Catalans' trophyless season led to the Dutchman's sacking. Following the early successes of Guardiola's reign, the number of trophies won by the club has been on a downward spiral. Last year they only won the league.

Martino's men have the chance to put a smile on their fans' faces tonight, something more typical of yesteryear when the Catalans measured the success of their season on beating Real Madrid.

However, this comparison would be unfair after recent seasons in which Barcelona won everything and were unanimously considered the best team in the world. There is no historical urgency right now, although it is undeniable that Tata and his team are playing to salvage their season tonight.
