FIFA U-17 World Cup: Mexico To Face Nigeria In Semi-Final

Mexico will be seeking their pound of flesh when they face Nigeria in Thursday’s FIFA U17 World Cup semi-final in Concepcion after they lost twice to the defending champions two years ago.

Two-time champions Mexico brushed aside Ecuador 2-0 Tuesday night to earn a chance to get their revenge against the Golden Eaglets.

They were the better team and deserved their win. Nigeria dumped then defending champions Mexico 5-1 in a group game before the North Americans showed great character by fighting their way to the final, where they again lost 3-0 to the Eaglets.

On Tuesday, Claudio Zamudio 41st minute put Mexico in front against Ecuador

Bryan Salazar tucked away a penalty in the 55th minute to double Mexico’s advantage after substitute Jose De Jesus Gurrola was felled inside the box.

African champions Mali will take the winners of the quarterfinal between Belgium and Costa Rica.
