Football fans weren’t pleased with the announcement that Jordan Henderson had won the vote to be the FIFA 16 UK cover star. It capped a massive day for Henderson. The Liverpool midfielder had also been named as the new captain of the club after the role was vacated by Steven Gerrard’s departure.

Unfortunately, not everyone could share in his happiness. Some were so put off that they declared they would be boycotting this year’s release and instead buying jaded rival Pro Evolution Soccer.

The main issue seems to be the fact that Henderson is gracing the same cover as Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, arguably the best player of all time. See some of the mocking tweets below.

Jordan Henderson has capped off a wonderful day by being voted FIFA 16 UK cover star.The Liverpool midfielder was also given the Reds’ captaincy after it was vacated by Steven Gerrard when the veteran skedaddled over to Los Angeles.

Now he stands alongside Barcelona maestro Lionel Messi as the poster boy for the UK release of the massive football game franchise.

An official EA Sports press release said: “Henderson saw off competition from Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Thibaut Courtois as more than nine million fans around the world voted for the first time in franchise history for their favourite player to be on the FIFA 16 cover.”
