LA Galaxy, Gerrard Eliminated From US Open Cup

Despite seeing LA Galaxy's US Open Cup run ended by Real Salt Lake on Tuesday, Steven Gerrard was strangely upbeat. Steven Gerrard had mixed feelings after making his competitive debut for Los Angeles Galaxy's 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake in the US Open Cup on Tuesday.

The former Liverpool and England captain played the second half as Bruce Arena's men conceded an 87th-minute goal to be eliminated in the quarter-finals of the competition. But despite the defeat, Gerrard said there were good signs from a personal perspective.

MLS: Gerrard, Lampard Named In All Stars Team

New recruits Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard headline the 2015 MLS All-Star team. They are yet to make their MLS debuts, but former England team-mates Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have both been included in the MLS All-Star team set to face Tottenham in Colorado on July 29.

Gerrard and Lampard were on Monday named as Commissioner Don Garber's picks for the All-Star match. Gerrard made his competitive bow for Los Angeles Galaxy in the opening match of the International Champions Cup on Saturday, while a calf strain delayed Lampard's highly anticipated New York City debut against Toronto FC on Sunday.

MLS: Gerrard In Winning Start

Steven Gerrard launched his post-Liverpool career with a low key cameo for new club Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, playing 45 minutes for the Major League Soccer side in a 2-1 win over Mexican giants Club America.

Just under two months after bidding an emotional farewell in front of 44 000 fans at Anfield, the former Liverpool talisman showed one or two glimpses of class before being substituted at halftime to applause from a 27 934-strong crowd.

Gerrard's full MLS debut is expected to come next Friday in a home fixture against the San Jose Earthquakes. Gerrard, 35, who has signed an 18-month deal with the Galaxy after spending his entire 17-year professional career with Liverpool, almost secured a fairytale debut goal in his best chance of the night.

Gerard Houllier expects Steven Gerrard to return to Liverpool in a coaching capacity once his playing days come to an end. On Friday, the Reds captain announced his intention to leave Anfield and move abroad at the end of the current season when his contract runs out, with a move to Major League Soccer widely anticipated.

His decision brings to an end a long association with the club but Houllier – who gave Gerrard his debut in 1998 – does not think that he will be away from Liverpool for long.

The Arsenal man tweaked ligaments in his right knee during England's 2-2 draw with Ecuador in Miami last week, but was back in light training on Tuesday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain will not face the Italians, but Hodgson remains hopeful of having the pacey midfielder back for England's second Group D game against Uruguay next Thursday.

 A couple of brilliant pictures were taken during the opening passage at Anfield on Sunday as Steven Gerrard and Jose Mourinho got in each other’s faces.

The Liverpool captain went over to the sidelines to take a throw-in for the Reds, but Gerrard first had to prise the ball out of the hands of the Chelsea manager. Mourinho looked like a bitter old man as he grumpily refused to give Gerrard his ball.

Given the respective form of Manchester United and Liverpool, and their seasons to date, there's nothing that remarkable about a 3-0 win for Brendan Rodgers' side at Old Trafford this afternoon.
However, it was achieved in extraordinary circumstances.

Liverpool were embarrassingly superior throughout. Every Liverpool player better than his opposite number, every pass made with more conviction, every attack constructed with more purpose. United's approach to the game was incredibly basic for a club of this stature, for players of this quality.

David Moyes did himself few favours here, basing an entire game plan around feeding the ball early to Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj in wide areas. That was not only easy to combat - Jon Flanagan and Glen Johnson snuffed it out at source time and again - but also left Fellaini and Michael Carrick hopelessly exposed and outnumbered in midfield.

BRENDAN RODGERS: We Will Continue To Push For EPL Title

Brendan Rodgers says his side will continue to push for the Premier League title after they twice came back from losing positions to beat Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage. The visitors went behind after an own goal from Kolo Toure and Rodgers called for his players to iron out individual mistakes in the remaining matches.

"We conceded two goals, that has been unlike us for a while. We need to eradicate the individual errors. Thankfully we have goals in the team," he told reporters.

Steven Gerrard clinched the three points for the Reds by converting an injury-time penalty and recieved special praise from his manager.
