Chelsea are a notoriously tough nut to crack. Like their coach, José Mourinho - who has now made it to the Champions League semi-finals an amazing eight times in 10 seasons, with four different clubs - they never give an inch.
The Portuguese coach is in his element on these sorts of occasions. He has nothing to learn from anyone. His side, meanwhile, is rock-solid and extremely difficult to beat over two legs. Despite Mou's attempts to paint them as the underdogs, Roman Abramovich has spent over €100 million this season as Chelsea bid to repeat their shock Champions League victory from two years ago.
There is no doubt that with the players and finances at their disposal, Chelsea could be at least a little easier on the eye. But Mourinho and the club are in the results business, and while it may not be pretty, for the time being they remain in contention in Europe and the Premier League.
Despite playing ugly in big matches and against more creative opponents the blues have achieved a lot doing this and are well feared in Europe. One can simply remember hiow Lionel Messi continued to lament after Barca's 2010 semi-finsl defeat in the hands of Chelsea.
