Guardiola Proud Of His Team After Loosing Bernabeu Record

After the match Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said that his side "played very well, with a lot of character. We had a lot of the ball. In Munich we have to work on our final ball".

On Real's counter-attacking play: "Since I was a player Real Madrid has set up to play on the counterattack. At that they are unstoppable, the best side in the world on the break".

Verdict on the match: "You may not agree but I am very proud of my team".
Tactics: "I thought the match was going to go the way it did. I asked my players to be strong, brave and play with courage".

Playing style: "I want my players to keep the ball. We will have to look at the details to see how we can create more chances".

Pep Guardiola's record as a coach against Real Madrid took a slight knock as he lost for the first time in the Santiago Bernabéu. Indeed he had only ever lost twice in fifteen attempts against 'Los Blancos' until Karim Benzema crossed his path. His Bayern side was a disappointment; despite enjoying a lot of possession they hardly created a chance in 90 minutes. Now they will have to turn things around in Munich if they are to reach the big final in Lisbon on 24th May.

For Guardiola, the Bernabéu has always been a lucky stadium. His legend as a coach began there with a famous 6-2 victory for his Barça side, and he managed to then win five straight games in the stadium with Barcelona.

Only the Cup final defeat in Valencia and the 2-1 loss in Camp Nou that handed a league title to Real Madrid had blotted his copybook before tonight. Now he has a third loss against Madrid to his name, this time in a semi final first leg and for the first time on the rivals' home ground. It appears that Pep is no longer

Real Madrid's bogeyman, for the time being at least, until they meet again in six days time in Munich.
On the other bench Carlo Ancelotti kept up his great record against Bayern that stems from his time at AC Milan. The Italian is yet to lose a tie to the German club and will go to Bavaria next Tuesday confident of keeping that up.
