Kenneth Omeruo Tops Mourinho's Pre-Season List

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo tops the list of four Chelsea youngsters Jose Mourinho will give a chance to impress in pre-season.

According to the Standard, the other three namely Christian Atsu, Bertrand Traore and Nathaniel Chalobah will, alongside Omeruo be handed an opportunity before start of next season. If reports are to be believed, the 'Special One' wants to see how far Omeruo and the other three have progressed in recent time. Omeruo and Chalobah have had fine seasons on loan at Championship outfit Middlesbrough whilst Atsu and Traore, who are also currently out on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, have impressed in the Dutch league this season,.

It remains to be seen as to whether the quartet can challenge Mourinho's first team regulars for a place in his side, but Blues fans will be hoping some of their young talents can breakthrough in the near future. For now though, the Chelsea boss will be hoping to continue his side's push for the title.

The Blues host Premier League strugglers Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and will be desperate to secure all three points against Gus Poyet's side. Meanwhile Omeruo has been tipped to become one of the best players in his position in the world in a few years.
Omeruo has become a favourite of Middslebrough fans following impressive performances since his loan move from Chelsea to the Championship side in January.

A scouting report on young players undertaken by Sky Sports gives high ratings to the Nigerian centre-back and marks him out as a potential world-class star in the near future.

Part of the glowing report reads: “Chelsea have a host of young players impressing out on loan, but few are catching the eye more than Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo. Omeruo is currently enjoying a loan stint at Championship outfit Middlesbrough, where he has become a first-choice player under Aitor Karanka. The Boro boss was recommended the player by Jose Mourinho, with whom he worked at Real Madrid. It took a few weeks for Omeruo to get his chance on Teesside, but he took it with both hands and has been outstanding for Boro in recent weeks…”

The 20-year-old is given a rare perfect 10 out of 10 for potential, while he gets 8/10 for pace. The scouting report rates him 7/10 for each of tackling and heading, key attributes for a good defender. He also gets a 7/10 for current ability and 5/10 for shooting and 6/10for passing.
His current value is put at £500,000, which is expected to rise to £8million given his huge potential.

The report adds: “Now on Teesside, Omeruo has shone with a string of outstanding defensive displays. Strong and stocky, Omeruo likes to keep things simple, which if nothing else means he makes very few errors - which is rare for such a young player. He plays with composure and rarely looks flustered.

“He is very strong, but despite his physicality, he is very quick over the ground making him very hard for an attacker to beat.

“All in all, many have been surprised just how Championship-ready Omeruo has been, but he has shown that he is more than capable of playing at that level and indeed, you have to wonder just how far off a chance in Chelsea's first-team he could be. Indeed his best chance to impress Chelsea could very well come this summer, when he is expected to feature at the World Cup finals for the Super Eagles.

“A huge talent, and one who already finds himself at one of the biggest clubs in the world - but it remains to be seen if he is given his chance at Stamford Bridge. If Chelsea don't use him, then there will be no shortage of offers.”
