MAN UNITED 1 BAYERN MUNICH 1: Schweinsteiger Rescues Bayern With Superb Goal

Congratulations to plucky Manchester United. They were outclassed but performed with the requisite defiance and pride that was not evident against Liverpool and City last month, and limited to Bayern to few significant chances.

They were even ahead for eight giddy minutes. Vidic and Ferdinand were immense; one last performance for the road before this great centre-back pairing go their separate ways in the summer.

The truth is that Bayern can and will play a lot better when they put United to bed in eight days' time, but the harsh nip of reality's incisors upon our nether regions is for another day. It's been a good night for United, and for David Moyes.

Bayern — which has still not lost since December 10th — came into the game as the heavy favorites over struggling United. They'll still be favored in the return leg thanks to that away goal, but this result was a mild surprise.

The Germans held all of the possession in the first half (75%+) but were completely unable to convert that into scoring chances.

In fact, the best chance of the half came from Welbeck on a breakaway
