The future of Radamel Falcao has become the centre of attention in the lead-up to the transfer deadline, with both Manchester City and Real Madrid bidding for his services. The striker, who sat out Monaco’s weekend draw with Lille, had tweeted early on Sunday morning (EST) that he was about to join Real - but the tweet was deleted a short time later.
Any deal with Real is only going to be on loan and Falcao’s representatives are shopping around to se if they can get a permanent deal. City then entered the fray and there are reports that talks are well advanced. To complicate matters even more, there are also rumours that City are about to offload Alvaro Negredo to either Real or Valencia. A move looks highly likely before Tuesday morning’s deadline (EST), it’s just a matter of whether he can get the permanent deal he is looking for.
Remy tug-of-war
Just when Chelsea look set to sign France striker Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers before Tuesday’s (EST) transfer deadline, Arsene Wenger makes his move.
Remy was set to start for QPR in their 1-0 Premier League win at home to Sunderland, but manager Harry Redknapp revealed the 27-year-old was pulled out of the team after Chelsea’s approach.
The Blues are reported to have triggered a $15 million release clause in Remy’s contract after settling on the former Marseille forward as a replacement for Spain striker Fernando Torres, who is joining AC Milan on a two-year loan.
But with a move to Stamford Bridge looking more and more certain, Arsenal then entered the picture and the Frenchman’s next place of employment will come down to a straight battle between the London big guns.
Before Arsenal’s approach, Redknapp said ‘ a deal to Chelsea looked as though it was done’.
“He was in the team. I just got a phone-call to say it looks like he is going to be moving,” Redknapp said.
“The deal looks like it has been done, so I had to make a change. As far as I know (it is Chelsea). He didn’t refuse to play, but it’s difficult to go out there to play and get your head around it.”
Speaking after his team’s 6-3 victory at Everton, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho confirmed his club were working to seal the deal.
“We are trying since yesterday, when we knew Fernando was leaving, to get Loic Remy but I don’t know the status,” he said.
Manchester United have announced that they have reached an agreement to sign versatile Netherlands international Daley Blind from Ajax.
“MUFC has reached agreement with Ajax to sign Daley Blind, subject to a medical and personal terms,” United said in a statement on the club’s official Twitter page.
“A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.”
Blind, 24, was in United coach Louis van Gaal’s World Cup squad in Brazil, where he helped Holland reach the semi-finals, and can play at left-back and as a defensive midfielder.
Subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical examination, Blind is poised to become United’s fifth close-season signing, as Van Gaal seeks to restore the club’s flagging fortunes.
“He’ll come to Manchester to have a medical, and then we might have a new player,” said Van Gaal.
Blind said it was a proud moment for him to sign for such a great club.
“It happened really quickly. I’m glad it turned out this way and I’m incredibly proud,” Blind said.
“I’m not the type of player who scores lots of goals in a season. I’m more a team player. My job is to help other players play better.”
United could sell a number of players before the transfer window closes on Monday as Van Gaal seeks to restructure his squad.
England midfielder Tom Cleverley is in talks with Aston Villa, Japan playmaker Shinji Kagawa has been linked with Valencia and former club Borussia Dortmund, and Mexican striker Javier Hernandez is a reported target for Juventus and now Real Madrid.
