Elderson Echiejile Confirms Hamstring Injury

Super Eagles and AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile has confirmed that he would be sidelined through an hamstring injury.

AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile has suffered a hamstring injury and will be out for weeks, the player has confirmed.

The Nigerian international sustained the problem during a training session with the French topflight outfit which ruled him out of his side’s 10-2 defeat of St Jean Beaulieu in the French Cup.

Elderson Echiejile Overcomes Injury Upset

Nigeria international defender, Elderson Echiejile, has recovered from the muscle injury that ruled him out of the 2014 Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil.

The left-back suffered the injury during Nigeria’s 0-0 draw against Greece in a pre-World Cup warm-up game in Pennsylvania on June 3. Initial diagnosis of the injury showed it was a muscle tear that would rule the 26-year-old out of competitive football for three weeks.

He was replaced in the Nigerian squad by winger, Ejike Uzoenyi, as the Super Eagles reached the round of 16 in Brazil.

Super Eagles defender Elderson Echiejile is hoping to end up on the winning side when he files out with the senior national team against Mexico in an international friendly billed to kick-off in the early hours of Thursday in Atlanta, United States of America.

Echiejile Wins With Monaco

Elderson Echiejile got off to a great start at Monaco as he featured in a 3-0 win over Chasselay in the French Cup on Wednesday. He played the full match as Monaco turned on the style against non-league Chasselay, who paraded former Monaco star Ludovic Guily.

Sporting jersey number 21, the former Rennes of France defender was outstanding as he marked and surged forward in his usual manner.

Elderson Echiejile will not walk into the Monaco first team as he will have to fight for his place against France youth international Layvin Kurzawa.

Nigeria defender Elderson, 26 on Monday, signed a four and a half year contract with the club from The Principality on Friday.

However, Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri said the 21-year Kurzawa remains his first-choice at left back, but he has bought Elderson as a cover for him.
