FIFA Presidential Election: Gianni Infantino Campaigns For Regional World Cups

Gianni Infantino has pressed on dishing out his manifesto ahead of the FIFA Presidential election which will hold next month. Infantino wants a whole region to host the biggest event in the world instead of just only one country. Do you share his view?

"FIFA should investigate the possibility of organising the World Cup not only in one or two countries but in a whole region", wrote the UEFA general secretary."That would enable several countries to enjoy the honour and benefits of hosting the World Cup", added the candidate, who also said he was in favour of plans to expand the tournament from 32 to 40 participating countries.

FIFA Presidency: Michel Platini Withdraws Officially

Michel Platini has withdrawn his candidacy for the Fifa presidency in order to clear his name following his eight-year ban from football.

Platini will appeal the sanction handed down by Fifa's ethics committee over an alleged "disloyal payment" made by Sepp Blatter to the Frenchman in 2011.

In an interview with French sports newspaper L'Equipe, an extract of which was published on Thursday, he said: "I am no longer putting myself forward to be president of Fifa, I have withdrawn my candidacy.

FIFA Presidency: Contestants To Hold Public Debate In London

FIFA Presidential contestants are set to hold a public debate which will reveal what each candidate has in stock for the troubled footballing body.

According to sportingintelligence.com,  American broadcaster ESPN wants to host the event in London on 29 January.

The election for the next head of world football's governing body is due to take place on 26 February in Zurich.

FIFA Presidency: Prince Ali Stops In Lagos To Win Nigeria's Vote

Contestant for the sit of FIFA President Prince Ali stopped over at the Lagos Airport to have a one on one talk with the president of the NFF. Ali is certainly one of the top shots for the hot FIFA sit. Pinnick should feel a level of shame for denying Segun Odegbami a chance to contest the FIFA presidential election after the NFF used delay tactics to sideline the former footballer.

One of the candidates for next year’s FIFA presidential election, Prince Ali Ibn Hussein, on Thursday made a stop –over in Lagos to see the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Both men spent some time together at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport before Prince Ali, a Jordanian and an influential figure in world football since challenging the now –suspended Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency in May this year, flew to Paris.

Michel Platini's appeal against the temporary lifting of his 90-day Fifa suspension has been rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but football's governing body has been ordered not to extend the sanction.

Uefa president Platini - along with outgoing Fifa boss Sepp Blatter - was banned in early October by Fifa's Ethics Committee over a "disloyal payment" allegedly made to the Frenchman in 2011, though both deny any wrongdoing.

Gianni Infantino seems like a puppet of Platini and Blatter. Some football pundits have argued that he was pushed to contest after it was perceived that the FIFA ethic committee who had suspended Michel Platini ahead of the election might rule Platini out of the election. Most potential votes for the suspended Platini are believed to go in the favour of Infantino.

Uefa's Gianni Infantino said he would work to clean up Fifa from "day one" if elected leader after an evening of close discussions with his Asian rival Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

Infantino told AFP that he would instigate reforms immediately if he is elected on February 26 to succeed the suspended and deeply controversial Sepp Blatter.

Aspiring FIFA presidential candidate Segun Odegbami has been cut short of his expectation for the top position in football. Odegbami who lamented the conditions set aside for people running for the position by the NFF wasdisappointed that the body is trying to stop him rather than supporting him. He will need the NFF to endorse him and the way it looks now simply shows that Mr Pinnick will not give Segun Odegbami the chance to be his boss. Segun who has lived his life for football deserves a better chance and will stand a better chance than Orji Uzor Kalu. In the race for the next FIFA president some incredible Nigerians have shown interest. I think this Nigerians have much believe in themselves despite the fact that most of us know that if they eventually contest some of this candidates will not get up to 2 votes.

Take for example if Orji Ujor Kalu finally contests and Segun Odegbami does too then Amaju Pinnick's vote will probably be shared. If Nigeria is allowed to present two candidates then someone will end up without a vote.

FIFA Presidency: Zico Refuses To Invite Orji Kalu & Segun Odegbami For Public Debate

Zico has sent an email to the FIFA candidates he deems fit as serious. Alas, no Nigerian candidate was considered. We have said here before that its a big joke coming out of Nigeria when you suddenly wake up and hear that Orji Ujor Kalu is contesting for the top sit. As if that is not enough the 63 years old football mathematician recently declared his interest too. 

Segun Odegbami is an ex-footballer that also played during the Zico era but everyone can foresee that he's chances are slim. One might say Segun might be considered serious if he runs for CAF presidency. I wonder what their thoughts will be if they here that they were not invited for a debate.

Former Head Of State General Ibrahim Babangida Backs Orji Ujor Kalu's FIFA Presidential Bid

Former President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), has joined the growing band of supporters for the candidature of former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, ‎for world football governing body’s, FIFA, topmost position.

Last week, CAF president, Issa Hayatou, also came out to swell the number of supporters for Kalu’s candidature.

FIFA: NFF Must Reject Orji Uzor Kalu's Presidency Bid

One of the big jokes coming out of Nigeria, Orzi Uzor Kalu for FIFA presidency!!! Looks and sounds funny. Orji a former Governor of Abia state could not put his state on the national map not to talk of world map. What special thing did Kalu do as the then Governor that singles the state out.

FIFA needs someone spectacular with various achievements and with scandals being one of the major reasons why Blatter is stepping down an ex Governor from one of the most corrupt countries in the world is far from needed at the helms of affairs of football.

It's more surprising that a former professional John Fashanu who never deemed it fit to play for his fatherland but opted to play for England who latter dumped him to stylishly tell him that he is a black man and not a natural British opened his mouth to support Orji's aspiration. Fashanu's support is a bloody shame to the recently divorced ex-footballer. I wonder why he didn't think of contesting himself.

Brazil Backs Zico's FIFA Presidency Bid

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) said on Thursday it is backing national football legend Zico's bid to replace Sepp Blatter as Fifa president.

The endorsement was a big boost for Zico, 62, who has previously conceded lacking support from Brazil's footballing top brass. However, to establish himself as a formal candidate he would still have to get backing from four other countries.

"Zico has our support to pursue his candidacy. If he gets the other four signatures, the CBF will back his application," the body's president, Marco Polo Del Nero, said in a statement.

Diego Maradona Set To Fight FIFA Mafia

Argentine football great Diego Maradona said on Wednesday he wants to fight the "mafia" responsible for the corruption scandal that has rocked FIFA, but he stopped short of saying he wants to be the next president of global soccer's governing body.

"I have to fight the mafia that still remains inside FIFA. I have to fight those who have for a long time stolen from inside FIFA," Maradona told local television channel America.

Asked whether he would run for the FIFA presidency, the 54-year old replied ambiguously: "I really want to be in FIFA."
