Chuba Akpom Scores In Hull Debut Against Huddersfield
Hull City made a flying start to their bid for a quick return to the Premier League as on-loan Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom sealed a 2-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday.
Tigers boss Steve Bruce this week admitted he had endured the most difficult three months of his 17-year managerial career in the aftermath of Hull's relegation from the top tier.
Despite losing 10 players during a tumultuous close-season, Bruce knows what it takes to lead a team to Championship promotion – the former Manchester United star achieved that feat twice with Birmingham and once with the Tigers – and Hull's lively showing in their first match of the new campaign suggests he might have assembled a squad capable of doing just that.

HULL 2 QPR 1: Fantastic N'Doye Scores Late Winner
Dame N'Doye marked his 30th birthday with a last-minute goal as Hull City claimed a vital 2-1 win over fellow Premier League strugglers QPR on Saturday. A nervy affair was brought to life after 16 minutes when a defensive error allowed Nikica Jelavic to fire home for the hosts, before QPR captain Joey Barton received a red card for lashing out at Tom Huddlestone.
Despite Hull's numerical advantage, Charlie Austin, who failed a medical at the KC Stadium back in 2013, was on hand to restore parity just before half-time, flicking home a teasing cross from Matt Phillips.

West Brom Fans Calls For Brown Ideye's Head
A section of the West Bromwich Albion support appears to have run out of patience with the club’s Nigerian striker, Brown Ideye. Ideye, WBA’s record signing from Ukrainian club, Dynamo Kyiv, has yet to hit expected heights with just one Premier League goal to his name this season.
The attacker failed to score in WBA’s latest Premier League game, a 1-0 win over Hull City at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

Eleven Points Gap Behind Chelsea Is A Big Concern - Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger was left to bemoan his side's lack of focus as they needed a late Danny Welbeck goal to salvage a 2-2 draw against Hull City. Strikes from Mohamed Diame and Abel Hernandez looked set to condemn Arsenal to a second successive Premier League defeat on Saturday.
However, Alexis Sanchez - who had opened the scoring after 13 minutes - jinked through Hull's defence in injury-time to set up Welbeck's equaliser. The draw salvaged a small positive for Wenger, who saw Jack Wilshere hobble off in the second half, but the Frenchman was unhappy with Arsenal's defending for Hernandez's goal shortly after the break and referee Roger East's refusal to award a free-kick for a perceived foul on Mathieu Flamini during the build-up to Diame's opener.

How The FA Cup Trophy Saved Arsene Wenger's Job - Mikel Arteta
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta said winning the FA Cup final saved Arsene Wenger's job. Wenger's long-standing position at the north London club was in jeopardy after nine years without a trophy, before the FA Cup breakthrough in May rewarded the fans' patience.
Arsenal trailed 2-0 early against underdogs Hull City, before launching a brilliant come-from-behind win - eventually triumphing 3-2 in extra time. Captain Arteta said Wenger's job was saved by their victory.

Have Placed Hull City On Sale - Dr Assem Allam
Hull City owner Assem Allam's revelation that he is again hoping to change the club's name has provoked a section of fans at the KC Stadium. Dr Allam confirmed on Thursday that he has placed Hull up for sale, having seen a proposal to rebrand the club 'Hull Tigers' rejected by the Football Association (FA) in April.
However, the Egyptian has also taken his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and will remain in charge if he does get his way.
Campaign group 'City Till We Die' were set up in opposition to Allam's original proposal and lobbied the FA to turn down the idea. And the group have once again surfaced, expressing a distaste for Dr Allam's appeal, but pleading with him to focus on the positives of his reign in Yorkshire.

Am Set To Create And Score Goals For Stoke City - Victor Moses
There is every chance that Victor Moses will make his debut for Stoke City this weekend away to Hull City after losing their opening clash 1-0 at home to Aston Villa. Moses told Martin Lowes of Signal1: 102.6FM that he is at the Brittania Stadium to help the team finish above ninth position, which they achieved last season.
“Hopefully, we can do much better and finish higher than we did last season.
“I just want to work hard and obviously as a footballer, score goals and create goals at the same time. I just want to, with the experience that I have got - add to the squad.

LOKEREN 1 HULL 0: Allan McGregor Error Hampers Tiger's Europa League Qualification
Hull City were left to rue an error from goalkeeper Allan McGregor as they slipped to a 1-0 Europa League defeat to Lokeren. A scuffed clearance from the 32-year-old goalkeeper just before the hour went straight to Hans Vanaken, who produced a cool finish to hand his side victory in the first leg of the play-off tie.
Despite a bright start, Steve Bruce's side failed to breach the Belgian Cup winners, with Yannick Sagbo wasting their best chance early on. The visitors will head into the return leg at the KC stadium needing at least a two-goal margin to keep their dream of qualifying for the group stages alive. Hull, who made nine changes from their weekend win over QPR, enjoyed a lively start to proceedings in Belgium and should have taken the lead after seven minutes.

EPL: THURSDAY PAPER REVIEW - Andre Schuerrle To Atletico Madrid, Vidal To ManU, Hull Wants Welbeck & More
Chelsea open talks with Atletico over Schuerrle: Atletico Madrid have opened talks with Chelsea over a deal for Andre Schuerrle, according to the Daily Mail. The German World Cup winner failed to hold down a regular starting place in Jose Mourinho's team last season, leading to Atleti's registering their interest last week. The Spanish champions are now pressing Chelsea for an answer.
Paper Round's view: It's difficult to imagine Mourinho allowing Schuerrle to leave Stamford Bridge, particularly after his impressive performances for his country earlier this summer. The manager will surely be willing to give Schuerrle a chance to replicate the form he showed in Brazil - if he can, he won't have to settle for being a bit-part player for long.
Hernandez-Vidal swap news 'soon': The Daily Mail reports that there will soon be news on the speculation linking Manchester United's Mexican striker Javier Hernandez with a swap deal for Juventus player Arturo Vidal. Some bookmakers have suspended betting on Chile midfielder Vidal moving to United, despite the player saying he wants to stay in Turin and the Italian club insisting he is not for sale. Hernandez's agent Eduardo Hernandez said: "I have no news at the moment on an exchange, I haven't spoken to anyone in England, but there will be news soon."

Five Things You Need To Know About The FA Cup Final
When Arsenal beat Manchester United in a penalty shootout to win the FA Cup in 2005, few can have imagined that Arsene Wenger's team would still be waiting for its next piece of silverware nine years later.
Yet that is the situation facing Arsenal ahead of its latest opportunity to end the trophy drought - an FA Cup final against Hull City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. |
