Andre Schurrle is hopeful of becoming more influential at Wolfsburg, but remains wary of promising another Bundesliga title challenge next season.

The former Chelsea forward made the move to the Volkswagen Arena midway through 2014-15 having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Germany international managed just one goal in 22 appearances in competitions as Wolfsburg's title hopes fell by the wayside - eventually finishing 10 points off top spot. Schurrle did help Wolfsburg win the DFB-Pokal, but stopped short of issuing another title challenge to Bayern Munich next season, telling Kicker: "That's not necessary, we just want to show that we are better than last season.

Andre Schurrle has revealed he was stressed out over his switch from Chelsea and feared a switch to Wolfsburg would not be completed in time. The Germany international completed his return to the Bundesliga for a reported €32 million on Monday, ending a week of intense speculation.

Schurrle is said to have agreed terms early on in the negotiations, but talks between the clubs took the deal perilously close to the transfer deadline.

Playing For Chelsea Is So Easy Says Fabregas

The German World Cup winner failed to hold down a regular starting place in Jose Mourinho's team last season, leading to Atleti's registering their interest last week. The Spanish champions are now pressing Chelsea for an answer.

Paper Round's view: It's difficult to imagine Mourinho allowing Schuerrle to leave Stamford Bridge, particularly after his impressive performances for his country earlier this summer.
