RECORD: Luis Enrique First 50 Matches Shows His Better Than Pep Guardiola

Not even Pep Guardiola managed a better win rate in his first 50 games as Barcelona manager. Luis Enrique has won over the Camp Nou faithful and has them chanting his name based on his unwavering and rational discourse and, more than anything, his results.

In a gesture which was almost unheard of until now, the Barça fans chanted the manager's name during the game against PSG. "Luis Enrique, Luis Enrique, Luis Enrique!" roared the Camp Nou for a few seconds when Barça went 2-0 up in and a place in the semi-finals was all but secure.

After having seen their side only go as far as the quarter-finals last season, with Gerardo Martino in charge, the fans wanted to give the manager his dues, when four months ago his job looked just as uncertain as his predecessor's. However, at this stage of the season there is no denying that Luis Enrique could not have achieved a better set of results, with his team top of La Liga and through to the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi-finals.

Luis Enrique's numbers have no equal. Not even the oft-missed Pep Guardiola managed to win 42 of his first 50 games as Barcelona manager. Nevertheless, some of the five defeats which Barça have suffered this season - especially the one in San Sebastián - had the manager teetering on the verge of dismissal.

The Spaniard has another year left on his contract, but the presidential elections in the summer will have a greater bearing on his future at the club than the results which he has obtained. Although he has done better than most people expected and even won over part of the fans, Luis Enrique knows better than anyone that only titles will keep him employed at a club which, after winning everything under Guardiola, was left with nothing to show for its efforts last season. Currently he has the best stats. Now he needs to turn them into silverware.
