Luis Suarez’s brace for Liverpool against Cardiff on Saturday was just another reminder about how well the Merseyside giants have done to sign up the Uruguayan on a longer-term contract. Read more after the cut.....
Initially, on Friday afternoon, as Liverpool fans celebrated the early Christmas present of Luis Suarez extending his contract at Anfield, the stand out figures where 200,000 pounds a week (from next season) and a contract duration until 2018.
Considering how Suarez publicly admitted his desire to leave Liverpool last summer and the fact a Champions League spot is far from assured this season, despite a great start, this always seemed like great work from the hierarchy at the club.
More details also emerged on Saturday, via Tony Barrett in The Times, one of the best connected journalists on Merseyside.
Crucially, it seems like Luis Suarez will never play for another English club as Liverpool do not have to listen to offers from Premier League sides.
And, if a European club does come knocking, they will have to pay more than Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale which Barrett predicts will be “closer to £100 million.”
