Wealthy Rooney tops richest English Premier League stars

Wealthy Wayne Rooney has topped the latest rich list of English-born Premier League stars. The Manchester United striker, 28, is worth a whopping £45million, according to the poll by Wealth-X. Read more after the cut......

Despite hinting several times he wants a move away from Old ­Trafford, the hitman is pocketing more than any of his fellow ­countrymen.
The former Everton star rakes in around £250,000 a week in wages and also trousers a fortune through deals with Nike and book publisher HarperCollins.
Second on the list is Rooney’s Red Devils team-mate Rio Ferdinand, 35, who has enjoyed a long career that has seen him twice break the transfer record.
Worth £37million, Ferdinand also has other business ventures off the pitch, including the plush Rosso restaurant in Manchester.
Third on the list is Chelsea’s Frank ­Lampard, 35, who is worth £31million.
Next comes Blues captain John Terry and current England and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, 33, who have £29million.Joe Cole, £32million, Ashley Cole, £32million, ­Michael Carrick, £32million, Ashley Young, £28million, and James Milner, £27million, make up the rest of the top 10.

Premier League champions ­United boast the wealthiest stars with their highest-earning 10 ­players worth more than £110million in total.
