CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Enyimba Set To Roast Togolese Champions In Aba

Nigeria’s Enyimba will begin their CAF Champions League campaign on Sunday when they welcome first-ever Togolese champions Anges de Notse. Two-time champions Enyimba have undergone major changes since they finished as runners-up in the Nigeria league in October.

Coach Zakary Baraje has replaced Salisu Yusuf, while they have made some shrewd signings including ABS striker Abdulrahman Bashir. Basking in the euphoria of beating all comers at the recent pre-season Super 4 in Abuja, where they recorded three straight wins over Warri Wolves, Bayelsa United and Kano Pillars, the Aba club will be going for broke against their little known visitors.

Enyimba assistant captain Markson Ojobo told MTNFootball.com they are gunning for a big win.

“We are not underrating them in any way but we will approach the match like a cup final. We have a couple of new players who have blended well with the rest of the squad and this is a bonus to the team,” declared the experienced defender.

“We have been motivated to give our best in the competition and there is no reason why we should fail our teaming fans.

“The league may not have started to really test our readiness, but the few games we have played have adequately prepared us for the task at hand.

“I am not used to predicting results, but I am sure we will harvest enough goals to make the return leg a mere formality. We want to win this one for our late team manager.”

New signing Mfon Udoh said he cannot wait to make his Champions League debut on Sunday.

"We will approach it with a lot of enthusiasm because a lot is expected of us as we are representing the whole country," said the striker who fired 15 goals for Akwa United last season.
