David Moyes believes Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic leaving the club at the end of the season is the right move for all parties concerned. The 32-year-old announced earlier on Friday that he will end his eight-year association with the Premier League champions when his contract expires in the summer.
Vidic, who has won five league titles at Old Trafford, also revealed that he will not consider joining another English club, with Inter Milan and Juventus both keen to take him to Italy. Manager Moyes will be forced into the market with Vidic’s long-term defensive partner Rio Ferdinand expected to leave as well, and the Scot has endorsed the Serbia international’s decision to exit Old Trafford.
Speaking about the decision, he said: “It was something that we all mutually agreed together. I think it was the right decision for club and player."
Vidic will continue to skipper the Red Devils until the end of the season, with Moyes insisting he will not be sidelined despite his imminent departure.
"He has been a brilliant servant for Manchester United," said the Scot.
"He is captain and it will remain that way until the end of the season. He has been a great player for us and we will continue using him."
