MAN CITY 0 CHELSEA 1: Jose Mourinho Slams Negredo Over Play Acting To Send Matic Off

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has accused Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo of play-acting in an attempt to get Nemanja Matic sent off and believes simulation should be retrospectively punished. The Portuguese had a brief touchline argument with the Spain international during Monday night's 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium and felt the City frontman, aware that Matic had already been booked, hit the deck clutching his face after an innocuous collision in an attempt to earn the Serb a second yellow card

And Mourinho, who chose not to comment on the FA's decision to uphold Andy Carroll's ban following his clash with Chico Flores – despite uproar regarding the Swansea defender's histrionics – believes play-acting should be dealt with more severely.

“I don't know if you noticed but, in the game against Man City, I had an exchange of words with one of the City players.

“I was not happy because he was trying to get Matic sent off. He knew he had a yellow card. Matic jumped just in front of me in a very clean way, and the other guy (who Mourinho subsequently confirmed to be Negredo) immediately [holds his face].

“He knew Matic had a yellow card already. Mike Dean, the fourth official and the linesman were all there, and they decided between them, no yellow card. But if no yellow card for Matic, then for me yellow card for the other guy.

“He deserves the punishment if he's trying to get the guy sent off. I'm speaking generally, not about Carroll. You have to attack the guys who try to get people sent off.”
