But, having seen United hold the German giants to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie, Bruce is warning against writing off his former club.
“Of course they have got a chance," said the ex-Old Trafford defender, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
"It is a tall order because Bayern Munich, for me, are the outstanding team in Europe and it is going to be difficult. But you can never write of Manchester United in a one-off game.
"Can they win the game? Of course they can.
"David needs a big performance from his players to get through and his big players have to perform on the night."
