In a crucial attempt to become a Madrista Toni Kroos turned down mega money that has been rumored to be more than what Real Madrid offered him. Playing alongside Ronaldo and Bale is one of the reasons coupled with playing for the best club in the World.
Though the powers that be at the Allianz Arena were even willing to top Kroos's original wage demands, he had made his mind up to leave. As his agent, Volker Struth, told the bosses in Bavaria, "Toni isn't going to sign a new deal and it's not about money".
Kroos came to the decision to head for pastures new some time ago, before Pep Guardiola took the reins, following a series of run-ins with the Bayern supremos.
One thing that particularly rankled Kroos was the lack of recognition from Uli Hoeness - then the club's president - and the other higher-ups at the end of the historic 2012-13 season under Jupp Heynckes.
After clinching an extraordinary treble of the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League, efforts were made to offer several players new terms (including Arjen Robben), seal big-money signings (Guardiola and Thiago Alcántara) and set up deals for the future (the signing of Robert Lewandowski). But no one at the club felt that Kroos's contract, due to expire in 2015, was a pressing issue.
