FIFA: Mikel, Musa, Emenike Top Eagles Ranking In World Cup 2014

Chelsea of England midfielder,Mikel Obi has been rated Eagles best passer of the ball, according to statistics released following the conclusion of the first knockout round of the on-going FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Mikel has been criticised by many Nigerians for what they see as his below par performance at the competition but the statistics from the games so far played rate him Nigeria’s best in terms of total number of passes made and completed.

According to the stats, Mikel made a total of 244 passes and completed 202 of them to become the ninth overall best at this stage of the competition. Mikel has also been rated Eagles’ dirtiest player at the 2014 World Cup. He committed 11 fouls in four games, the most by any other Super Eagles stars.


Kenneth Omeruo is rated Eagles best defender after he made a total of 31 clearances in four games, the best by any Nigerian defender at the competition and the joint eight best at this stage of the competition.

In the attack, Ahmed Musa expectedly got rated the best prolific Eagle following his two goals in Brazil. He is rated the ninth best player in terms of shots-to-goals conversion rate and the fourth best in terms of shooting accuracy where he has an 83.4% success rate ahead of such established and high ranking stars as Brazil duo of Neymar and Oscar and Andre Schurrle of Germany.

Eagles top striker, Emmanuel Emenike is however rated Nigeria’s best dribbler at the competition. He made a total of 29 dribbles, the fifth best by any player so far at the championships. No prizes however for guessing who tops the leaderboard in this category: Lionel Messi. The Argentine has made 41 dribbles.

Emenike was not however accurate in front of goal as he made the top 10 of players who fired shots off-target with six. Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan tops the list with 10.

Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama is rated the second best goalkeeper at this stage after making a total of 22 saves, five less than Everton and USA goalie,Tim Howard who made 27 saves with 15 of them coming in Tuesday night’s round of 16 loss to Belgium
