Standard Liege striker Imoh Ezekiel may join legions of Nigerian players playing in the Gulf region next season after Tottenham Hotspurs and FC Porto failed to reach an agreement to sign the highly rated forward, Complete Sports has gathered.
The Belgian outfit was close to agreeing a deal for the 20-year-old forward who scored 13 goals last season but were forced to back out on the deal after he failed to meet the requirements to feature in the English premier league.
“Tottenham were close to signing him but he doesn’t meet the basic requirements to play in England,” his mentor Liameed Olawale Gafar said.
“They are still keen on him after all they have agreed to loan him back to Standard for the beginning of the campaign but Standard wants an outright sale.”
Ezekiel who is worth 5m euros will decide in the coming days if he will follow his striking partner Michy Batshuayi who recently joined French side Olympique Marseille.
“He has concrete offers from the Gulf region and he will be reviewing them in the coming days.”
The one – cap Nigeria international had an outstanding season after he was nominated for the prestigious Ebony Golden Shoe, an award given to the best non European player in Belgium.
