Spanish football site Fichajes claim that Arsene Wenger has offered £40 million (€57m) for Benzema. Best to take this story with a pinch of salt.
But now that we know Wenger has a war chest, perhaps he has thrown a bit of money at the Spanish giants to tempt them into selling their first choice forward.
They did it with Mesut Ozil in 2013. Madrid had doubts about Ozil and Arsenal pounced on those doubts in order to secure their marquee signing.
Last summer they also spent big on Alexis Sanchez. Now apparently Wenger has been informed that Madrid are ready to listen to offers for Benzema.
But this doesn’t make a ton of sense given that Rafa Benitez has no other centre-forward in his squad. Fichajes claim Marco Reus is ready to replace Benzema.
