In Form Sunshine Stars Will Win The NPFL Title - Omaka

Anthony Omaka believes Sunshine Star’s brilliance in the attack will see them clinch the Nigeria Professional Football League title ahead of their rivals this season.

Kennedy Boboye’s team  currently sit two points below leaders Enyimba, but boast of a better goals difference in the Nigeria topflight after tearing apart El Kanemi Warriors 5-0 in their last league outing.

With 13 matches still to play, the former Flying Eagles attacking midfielder concedes that he and his team-mates are remaining focused on the job in hand, but believes that they can win their first league title ever if they keep up their brilliant goal scoring form.

“We are confident as a team - we are second in the Nigeria Professional Football League and we are just taking it game after game,” Omaka told Goal.

"Against El Kanemi, we played beautiful football, scored brilliant goals to mount pressure on our rivals, but the most important thing will be to emerge as league champions having come this far.

“Should we continue with our brilliant form in front of goal, no team will stop us from achieving our ultimate aim.”

The 19-year-old who joined Sunshine Stars at the beginning of the second stanza of the season admitted that he never believed he would be given a chance at the star-studded team but praised coach Boboye for giving him the chance and hopes that he becomes a regular in the first team.

“On arrival, I never believed I would be given a look by the technical crew because of the arrays of stars in the team, but coach Boboye’s decision to give me regular playing time gave me a lot of confidence,” he concluded.

“Everybody wanted to help me including the team’s backroom staff. I also have to say that the fans have been good to me.

“It is a great feeling playing for one of the biggest teams in Nigeria and I hope at the end of the season, we will all have every cause to smile home with the champions’ trophy,” he concluded.

Sunshine Stars face Wikki Tourists in Bauchi on Sunday.
