Leopold Angong Oben has collapsed and died during a game in Cameroon’s Professional Football league.
The Dynamo de Douala player was fouled in the penalty area and the referee awarded his team a spot-kick during the first half of the match against Colombe du Dja-et-Lobo at the Reunification Stadium in Douala.
He received treatment on the pitch, but collapsed a few minutes later after play was restarted.
“He collapsed in the stadium in the 33rd minute of the match,” sports journalist Aime Moukoko, said.
“His team mates tried to revive him without success,” he added.
A statement from the Cameroon Professional Football League read: “(Oben) was evacuated to a Douala hospital where he passed away minutes after.”
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
