Champions League Draw: City In Group Of Death As Chelsea Gets Easiest Group

On Thursday afternoon the Champions League groups were drawn in Monaco following this week’s midweek knockout fixtures.

Holders Barcelona were drawn in Group E with Bayer Leverkusen, Roma and BATE Borisov.
Arsenal fans will be cursing their luck, having been drawn against Bayern Munich once again.

The Gunners were knocked out of the competition by the Bavarians in both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 editions, and although this time they can’t be directly eliminated as it’s the group stage, it’s still an unwelcome draw for Wenger and co.

Manchester United, who return to the competition after a year in exile, were drawn against PSV, which will see manager Louis van Gaal take on his former club; CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg make up the rest of the group.

Chelsea, meanwhile, who won the competition in 2012, were given a relatively easy route to the last 16, drawing Porto and Dynamo Kiev, although they will also have to deal with a long away trip to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Manchester City definitely got the roughest deal of the English teams, and will have to face last year’s finalists Juventus, Borussia Monchengladbach, as well as a strong Sevilla side

The first set of Champions League group stage fixtures take place on the 15th and 16th September.
