Presidency to pay Keshi's debts

Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi has revealed that the Presidency has moved to pay national team coach Stephen Keshi and his assistants their unpaid salaries. Keshi has been owed for seven months. Read more after the cut.....

“The Presidency has made arrangements to pay the salary arrears of the coach of the Super Eagles Stephen Keshi on or before next week,”said Abdullahi.
“We (sports ministry) don’t have the responsibility of paying the coaches. The federation has that responsibility, but the government cannot say let the federation handle it on their own anymore. Since it was not in our budget, I had to appeal to the Presidency and everything should be cleared soon.”
Abdullahi  however blamed Keshi for not bringing the matter to his notice when it became evident  his employers were broke and could not afford to pay him.
Keshi and his assistants are yet to be paid since they led the Super Eagles to Africa Cup of Nations triumph in South Africa early this year.
