The lives of footballers are full of shenanigans that we never hear about. With that much money, fame and privilege, it’s only natural that hi-jinks will ensue.

Now we can read about a few that have occurred at Barcelona over the years. La Esfera de los Libros is publishing Las mejores anécdotas del Barça, a book compiling wacky anecdotes concerning players at the club.

One of the wildest that is mentioned in Marca’s article about the book features Brazil legend Ronaldo. He spent a sensational season with the Spanish giants, hitting 47 goals in 49 appearances.


He was doing plenty of scoring off the pitch, too. Ahem.

What we’re previewed is a carry-on version of the forward’s escapades at Camp Nou. A security guard once walked in on Ronaldo having sex with two women in the stadium’s presidential box.

The then-president, Josep Lluís Núñez, was told about this farcical behaviour and replied: “Ronaldo is 20: at that age he’s entitled to have some fun.”

Less sex comedy, but still mildly amusing, is the story about the time Lionel Messi told the Barca board that they needed to up their game with the gifts after the 2006 Champions League final win over Arsenal.

He apparently got into the cockpit of the plane they were all aboard and shouted into the microphone: “We don’t want any more watches, we’ve got enough!”
