NFF Planning Northern African Friendly For Super Eagles

The NFF is working hard to play a friendly match with a Northern African team before the important AFCON qualifying match against Egypt. It is believed that the neighbors mostly play the same pattern of football and a friendly with one of them can let the Super Eagles get understanding of the Pharaohs.

The Nigeria Football Federation are looking at the possibility of a friendly international game between the Super Eagles and any of Tunisia, Algeria or Morocco to prepare the team for the all important double header against Egypt next year.

Egypt currently lead Group G of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with six points from two games, two points ahead of Nigeria and both sides will meet in March in what will potentially be the games that might decided who heads to Gabon.

Only one team from each group will qualify for the tournament while the best second-placed team will join host Gabon and other qualifiers for the football fiesta.

“The NFF are working together with Sunday Oliseh to see if we can play a Northern African team before we meet Egypt next year,” an NFF insider told supersport.com.

“You know it’s good to get a feel of what we are to expect there; it might not give us all the answers but we will learn a thing or two that will help us.

“I don’t know which of the teams we will play yet. It’s still in the pipeline, but when it’s confirmed I’m sure it will be made public then,” he added.

Nigeria, buoyed from a 3-0 win over Cameroon last weekend, will wait to see who they play in the preliminary round of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will meet the winner between Djibouti and Swaziland in November with the stars pointing at Swaziland who have a 6-0 first leg lead over Djibouti.
