Argentina were on Friday drawn alongside Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Nigeria in Group F and Veron does not rate Nigeria’s chances too highly.
“If you look at the group, the teams here like Nigeria are not first class sides,” said the former Manchester United star.
Veron who plays his football in Argentina these days with Estudiantes believes Nigeria will only have a prayer against the two-time World champions if Alejandro Sabella fails to prepare his wards adequately for the group games.
“The games against Nigeria and the other two sides will depend on how well (Argentina) prepares.
“So it is only logical that we show our opponents some respect and focus on the first game,” he said.
Argentina and Nigeria will go toe to toe in the final preliminary game of group F of the 2014 World Cup on June 25 at the Estádio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre.
This will be the fourth time Nigeria will be meeting Argentina in the group stages of a World Cup.
The Argentines won all three previous encounters; 2-1 in 1994 and 1-0 in 2002 and 2010.
