Table Standing Is Fake, Manchester City Still Title Favourites

Jose Mourinho has once again insisted Manchester City are title favourites despite his Chelsea side moving seven points clear at the top after their 4-0 win over Tottenham. The Blues outclassed Spurs at Stamford Bridge but did have some fortune on their side with a number of defensive errors and an undeserved red card for Younes Kaboul helping their cause.

But rather than be pleased with Chelsea's position, Mourinho claimed he would rather be in Manuel Pellegrini's shoes as City can take top spot if they win their three games in hand due to superior goal difference.

"City have everything in their hands. They have three matches in hand, so if they win all the three matches they are top of the league," the Blues boss said.

"There’s no issue about it, you look to the table it’s a fake situation because one team has some matches, another one has two less, another one gas three less and another one less, so it’s a fake table from the top to the bottom.

"I would like to be in their position, because if they win the matches they are top of the league. If we win the next nine matches, we may not be champions.

"If Manchester City win the 12 matches they have, they are champions. They have their destiny in their hands and we don't have ours.

"I would prefer to have my destiny in my hands. It doesn't depend on us. It depends on them."

The former Real Madrid boss did declare he was happy to all but secure Champions League qualification though.

"What I can say now clearly is that it is very, very difficult if we don't get a top-four position.

"We were 10 points from them [Spurs] and they were the biggest threat to the top four. Thirteen points [for Spurs to make up] with nine matches to go, I think is almost impossible.

"I can say now objective number one in the Premier League is in our pocket. Now our next objective is top three because that gives us [automatic] qualification to the Champions League."
