Osaze And Uche Can Still Make World Cup Says Keshi

Nigeria head coach Stephen Keshi has declared that the duo of Peter Odemwingie and Ikechukwu Uche can still make his squad for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

Keshi made it clear that Odemwingie and Uche "have equal chances of making the team" based on their discipline and work rate.

He added that the two strikers will have to prove they deserve to be in Nigeria's World Cup squad through their performance and attitude.

“There has been too much talk on this Osaze and Ike Uche issue. Let me state here that they all have equal chances of making the team like every other player. There is no special consideration for anybody, if they are invited. Everyone invited must all prove themselves good enough to make the team,” Keshi said to journalists during a media meeting organised by Tom Tom in Lagos on Tuesday.

Keshi is also happy that Odemwingie and Uche have been among the goals for their clubs in England and Spain this season.

But he said it should be recognised that both players are doing their jobs and insisted that does not guarantee them automatic places for the World Cup in Brazil.

“It is good that these players are doing well for their clubs, but that alone cannot get them to play for the Super Eagles. They are paid to score goals for their clubs. so what they are doing is okay for them," Keshi said.

Keshi also laid down the marker for any player willing to make his squad to the Mundial this June.

He made it clear that all "the players must be disciplined" and also give the coaches respect.

“The players must also be disciplined and ready to respect coaches' instructions. So, if a player is good on the field of play, he must also behave well to merit a national team call-up,” said Keshi, who avoided to bring up the issue of Uche being left out of his team in recent games owing to what he terms 'indiscipline'.

The Nigerian manager is expected to name a 35-man provisional squad for the Mundial as they prepare to face Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran in the group stage of the World Cup in Brazil.
